Windows can become slow due to many reasons. The slow speed of the PC delays the work of the users. It also ensures trouble for the users because they see the PC not able to perform as per their needs. Therefore it is very important for the users to tweak the settings of the PC time and again to speed up PC performance.
If the computer is running slow this may be that it is low on memory. The first thing a person will try to do is to optimize startup group. We all know that when installing programs on the computer, some will automatically add entries to load with windows startup. These unnecessary startup items will take up lots of system sources and make the computer boot slow. So it becomes the first thing that you should to speed up your computer. You can go to Start -> Run -> type "msconfig" and press "Enter" to access System Configuration Utility ->go to Startup tab and then uncheck the unnecessary items.
By clearing out any programs that run on startup, you can really increase performance and startup times. You might also want to consider disabling any indexing programs and internet Add-ons - they can really cripple the performance on an already struggling computer.
Try running 'msconfig' and check out the applications in the 'Startup' tab. If you look through the list, you should be able to spot certain applications you don't need - Program update checkers are good candidates for unchecking.
You can also Defrag Your Hard Drive. Whenever you write, create, or copy a new file, Windows will assign space that is needed for that file. Automatically it will be put into that assigned empty space. Eventually the available spaces run out, so Windows will fragment the file and put parts of it in any available space on your hard drive.
By doing a registry cleanup, you will dramatically increase your computer speed and performance! This will speed up your computer to its maximum power! To do this you will need a Registry Cleaner program. These kinds of programs will seek and remove all of your computer registry problems. Once they are fixed and removed, your computer will free most of its memory resulting in a comprehensive increase of speed and performance!
